Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) is learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up, relationships, sex, human sexuality, including LBGT, and sexual health. We believe it is important for pupils to understand what makes a stable and loving relationship and the importance that respect plays in relationships.
RSE will enable pupils to consider their attitudes and values towards relationships and sex, help to develop their personal and social skills, in addition to securing their knowledge and understanding of relationships and sex in an informed, safe and secure environment.
Parental right to withdraw from Relationships and Sex Education
Parents have a right to request to withdraw their child from Sex Education delivered as part of RSE; this does not include Sex Education taught in the Science curriculum. The school will make alternative arrangements in such cases. The DfE offers a standard pack of information for parents who withdraw their children from Sex Education. There is no right to withdraw from Relationships Education for example from subjects such as: family, friendship, safety (including online safety).
NB: Pupils have the right to opt into all parts of RSE, without parental consent, three school terms before their 16th birthday.
